In the first ten months of the year, China recorded a year-on-year increase of 3.6 percent in passenger travel and 3.5 percent in operational freight volume. Data released by the Ministry of Transport also indicate continued growth in both road and waterway freight transport.
BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) — A total of 56.88 billion inter-regional passenger trips were made across China in the first ten months of the year, marking a 3.6 percent increase compared with the same period last year.
According to data published by the Ministry of Transport on Friday, the country’s operational freight volume rose by 3.5 percent year on year during the same period, reaching 48.29 billion tonnes. The figures reflect sustained growth momentum.
Road freight volume expanded by 3.6 percent year on year to 35.62 billion tonnes, while waterway freight increased by 3.5 percent to 8.29 billion tonnes.
Port container throughput also registered robust growth. From January to October, China’s port cargo throughput reached 15.13 billion tonnes, up 4.3 percent year on year. Within this total, domestic trade cargo increased by 4.6 percent, and foreign trade cargo grew by 3.7 percent.
Fixed-asset investment in the transport sector amounted to 2.95 trillion yuan (approximately 417 billion U.S. dollars) in the first ten months of 2025.
