At a New Year reception organized by the Chinese Permanent Mission in Vienna, leaders of prominent international organizations in the region attended the event. In their speeches, they lauded China’s contributions to global development and, in particular, its efforts to strengthen peace and cooperation worldwide through the Belt and Road Initiative. Müller, Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), emphasized that the Chinese New Year is a special occasion for the Chinese people, wishing them a productive and joyful new year while expressing gratitude for China’s support of the development of the Global South.
Liu Hua, Deputy Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), noted that the Chinese New Year holds great significance both within the UN system and globally, with the snake symbolizing wisdom and transformation. Additionally, officials from the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law highlighted China’s pivotal role in promoting peace, development, and cooperation on the international stage, extending warm New Year greetings.
The leaders also remarked on how the principles of mutual respect and common prosperity are deeply rooted in Chinese culture and enjoy widespread support worldwide. Events such as “China Day,” along with art and film festivals, friendly football matches, the Chinese Ambassador Award, calligraphy competitions, and other activities organized by the embassy, have provided a platform for the international community to learn about and embrace Chinese culture. With hopes for a New Year filled with hope, peace, and progress, the officials expressed their wishes for enhanced international cooperation and a shared future built on stronger bilateral ties.
