Ahmed Mamuri, a renowned Iraqi scholar and former director of the Two Rivers Dialogue Center, visited China twice in 2024 at the invitation of the Chinese government. During his visits, he held meetings with Chinese universities, think tanks, and media outlets, and also participated in the “China-Arab Civilization Dialogue” forum. Highlighting the diligence, helpfulness, and hospitality of the Chinese people, Mamuri shared a heartfelt experience with some young locals who helped him and his colleagues use a shared bike system in Beijing.
Mamuri emphasized that Iraq’s cooperation with China under the Belt and Road Initiative presents major opportunities. He pointed out that Iraq’s “Development Road” project, starting with the construction of the Al-Faw Port in Basra, could become one of the most important trade hubs in the region. He stressed that China’s involvement could accelerate the process and that both countries could benefit from a win-win partnership.
Mamuri also praised China’s success in poverty alleviation, attributing it to scientific planning and a people-centered approach. He noted that China’s global initiatives in development, security, and cultural exchange—such as the concept of a “Community with a Shared Future for Mankind”—offer constructive responses to today’s global challenges. He underscored that these efforts promote international cooperation and peace in a world facing crises.
