XINING, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) — McDonald’s, the U.S.-based fast-food conglomerate, has successfully established a physical presence in every province-level administrative division of mainland China. This milestone was reached following the inaugural branch openings in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province over the past weekend.

According to an official statement released by the corporation on Saturday, McDonald’s commenced operations in Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia, by launching three outlets situated within the city’s central business districts.

Furthermore, the brand’s first establishment in Qinghai was inaugurated on Sunday in the Haihu New District of Xining, the provincial capital. This facility, which features a “drive-thru” service, spans over 700 square meters and possesses a seating capacity exceeding 200 patrons.

McDonald’s officially entered the mainland Chinese market in October 1990 with its debut restaurant in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. A significant strategic pivot occurred in 2017 when the company formed a strategic partnership with CITIC Limited, CITIC Capital, and the Carlyle Group.

Data provided by McDonald’s China indicates that, as of November 2025, the corporation operates more than 7,500 outlets across 280 prefecture-level cities in mainland China, maintaining a workforce of over 200,000 employees.
