China’s Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone continues to play a vital role in accelerating western development and contributing to the national economy. Since 2020, the economic growth of the region has gained momentum through cooperation between Chengdu and Chongqing, with the region’s economic output reaching 8.6 trillion yuan by 2024.
Infrastructure projects in the region are also advancing rapidly, with 21 new highway connections and major projects in energy and water resource management underway. In the technology sector, the science cities built in Chengdu and Chongqing, alongside 22 new national technology hubs, have made the area a key center for high-tech research and entrepreneurship.
Additionally, the region has expanded its international trade networks, becoming an important logistical bridge between Europe and Asia. Notably, the China-Europe train route has reduced shipping costs to Turkey by 15% and halved delivery times. These developments position the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone as a rising economic and technological hub in western China.
