Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi co-chaired the 16th meeting of the China-Vietnam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation on Tuesday in Beijing with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son. Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, stated that the senior leaders of both parties and countries have reached a significant consensus on advancing the building of a shared future for the China-Vietnam community. He noted that both nations have entered a critical stage in their socialist development.
Highlighting that the next year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges, Wang expressed China’s willingness to work with Vietnam from a strategic and long-term perspective. He emphasized planning the next phase of cooperation to support each other’s modernization efforts. Wang called for maintaining a stable strategic orientation, fostering high-level exchanges, and continuing targeted collaboration.
Bui Thanh Son affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to implementing the key agreements reached by the senior leaders of both countries and to using the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to strengthen ties. He expressed Vietnam’s willingness to engage in frequent high-level exchanges and enhance political mutual trust. Furthermore, Bui underlined Vietnam’s readiness to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with China in areas such as economy, trade, infrastructure, agriculture, culture, and local governance. He also stressed Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening communication and coordination in multilateral relations, appropriately managing differences, and advancing the building of a shared future for the Vietnam-China community to a higher level.
On the same day, the two foreign ministers also participated in commemorative events marking the 25th anniversary of the demarcation of the two countries’ land borders and the 15th anniversary of the signing of three legal documents on the management of the China-Vietnam land border and related land ports.
