In Zimbabwe, 52 students were honored for their academic achievements under the China-Zimbabwe Friendship Scholarship program. Launched in 2020 through a collaboration between the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe and the Confucius Institute at the University of Zimbabwe, the program supports students studying the Chinese language in completing their education. Speaking at the award ceremony, Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Higher and Vocational Education, Simelisizwe Sibanda, emphasized that this program strengthens cultural and educational cooperation between China and Zimbabwe while encouraging young people to contribute to this partnership.
China’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding, highlighted that language learning builds intercultural bridges, enhances understanding, and deepens friendships. The scholarship not only enables students to succeed in a globalized world but also underscores China’s significance in trade, technology, and culture. Director of the Confucius Institute in Zimbabwe, Laston Mukaro, stated that the program aims to foster a shared vision and a community of prosperity between the two nations. Beyond providing educational support, the initiative seeks to strengthen cultural ties and mutual understanding between China and Zimbabwe.
