In December 2024, Chinese President Xi Jinping stated at the fourth Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) working conference that opportunities for the high-quality development of the initiative outweigh its challenges. He emphasized the importance of strategic confidence, determination, and bold action in building a brighter future. The year 2024 also marked the 11th anniversary of the BRI. Over the past 11 years, the initiative has evolved into one of China’s most impactful international public goods and the largest platform for global cooperation.
In recent years, Xi Jinping has launched three major global initiatives that underpin the BRI: the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. These initiatives aim to enhance the BRI’s practicality and inject new dynamism on a global scale. Addressing development, security, and civilization, these initiatives strengthen China’s fundamental role in driving global economic growth, uphold the principle of multilateralism, and promote cooperation and shared prosperity.
In this context, the Belt and Road Initiative not only fosters economic growth but also contributes to the stability of the global order through peace, security, and cultural exchange. The ideas and practices proposed by China through these initiatives play a significant role in reforming global governance and fostering a system where nations collaborate on the basis of equality.
