A major program to promote trade between western Chinese provinces and ASEAN members has been achieving impressive results. The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor connects countries on the Eurasian continent and helps companies in southwest China to establish close ties with global markets. Gong Ming reports.
Tuanjie Village Station in downtown Chongqing, southwest China, is a bustling transport hub with trucks and cranes loading containers onto freight trains. Since the launch of the new International Land-Sea Trade Corridor in 2017, it connects the northern Silk Road Economic Belt facilitated by the China-Europe Railway Express, with the southern Maritime Silk Road. Along with Guoyuan Port on the Yangtze River, it forms a comprehensive logistics channel promoting economic and trade exchanges between Europe and Asia.
ZHUO BIYUAN Chief Engineer Freight Department of China Railway Chengdu Bureau “The opening of this route facilitates the regional connections from south to north and west. Many automobile manufacturers in Chongqing can now sell their products not only to European countries, but also to Central Asian and ASEAN countries. At the same time, on the return train, products from European countries and some fresh fruits and grains from ASEAN countries can also enter the Chinese market.”
